The Joys of Fostering a Rescue Dog
As a foster mom, I know first hand how wonderful it is to be instrumental in helping changing the life of an abondoned, abused or neglected dogs.
Each dog has it's own story. Some are victims of the downturn in the economy as their families loose their homes due to forclosure. Some have been found on the street in deplorable condition, obviously abandoned or lost for a significant period of time. Some come into rescue simply because their family has decided they don't have time for them. Some have been rescued from the horrors of a puppy mill where they have never received even basic veterinary care and have been used purerly to generate income with no regard for their emotional or physical needs. Every rescued dog has it's own unique story.
We have had many foster dogs go through our home, some for a short visit, others for several months as they waited for their forever family and each one became a special part of our own family history. We seldom know much about their history before they arrive at our home. Often they seem depressed, scared and detached during the first days with our family. It is thrilling to see these precious little ones transform from scared timid little dogs into confident little beings who seek out attention and affection. It can be hard to see them leave and go on to another home, another family, but as each dog leaves, we know we have room to help another pup in need.
I would highly recommend getting involved with animal rescue! You might even find your next fur baby to add to your own family.
